Are you all about art appreciation, one-of-a-kind fashion, vintage pieces and sustainability? Do you also appreciate huipiles and everything they represent? Are you a textile enthusiast like us but not sure exactly how to use them? Then this is the blog for you!
Here at Hiptipico we honor huipiles in every aspect and are extremely thoughtful about how we use them. We take note of theirvibrant colors, their intricate weavings and embroidery details and of course their cultural significance. With our years of experience, we want to give all you huipil lovers some ideas of which huipiles are best to be preserved, which can be cute to wear, which make for killer home decor and which ones we use for our bags and accessories at Hiptipico.
First, preservation is our top priority at Hiptipico. You can view our online Huipil museum and notice how much we've invested into curating a collection that will never be cut up, sold, or used for another project. Now, moving on to trendy modern bohemian fashion ... These cropped huipiles from Cobán and Cotzal lend themselves perfectly to be styled with an epic pair of high wasted jeans. The white canvas and pop of color make it easy to style with some blue high wasted jeans or black ones! Paired with some vintage or grungy boots to create a killer look!
The next two textiles have super unique colors and symbols that make for amazing wall hangings in your living room or above the bed frame. You can simply find a beautiful piece of wood to hang the weaving on or even mount it on a frame. Not only will this unique textile decor grab everyone's attention but its also a unique huipil that no one else in the world will have in their home. Both huipiles are from Chichicastenango and are works of fiber art that will look amazing as interiors.
The following two huipiles with the black base from Chichicastenango and Cotzal are perfect for a custom convertible day bag as pictured below! You can use them to design a custom black luxury leather bag of your dreams!
The last two huipiles are from Zunil and are a designers dream textile for a floor pouf. With either of these, you can add a pop of color with that intricate neckline to any room in the house! A cozy place for your spoiled pet, a meditation pillow, or even a Moroccan style dinner cushion. Especially now that the colder seasons are around, these are perfect to create that cozy feel in the casa right next to the fireplace.
We hope we inspired you with some ideas of what you can do with huipiles. And of course encourage the preservation, appreciation and respect for the origin, weaver and culture behind these works of art. By treasuring huipiles and supporting our collective of artisans not only do you help us create a stable and constant income but you also help preserve indigenous culture in Guatemala.
