Hiptipico was founded in 2012 and worked in rural Guatemala alongside indigenous communities for 10 years. Our team is known worldwide as the pioneers in ethical fashion, sustainable sourcing, transparent production and genuine local leadership.
Hiptipico founder Alyssa Espinoza earned her Master’s Degree from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service in Washington DC where she graduated Cum Laude specializing in the Economic Development of Latin America. She traveled the world extensively completing her field research on sustainable tourism in the Amazon Rainforest and Galapagos Islands. She work in various sustainable development initiatives including Kiva.org eventually brought her to the highlands of Guatemala in 2011. Here is where Alyssa connected with talented female artisans in rural villages and together began exploring ways to create access to a global marketplace. Using social media to share the authenticity behind building a grassroots ethical brand to energize the local economy led to the overall success of Hiptipico.
For 10 years Alyssa lived full-time in rural Guatemala alongside local artists and offered private tours exclusively for film makers, universities and fashion designers looking for insider knowledge and off the beaten path exposure. Today, Alyssa is thrilled to open up these unique moments with socially-minded travelers and share this knowledge in a small group setting.
